Will Monteleukast worsen my daughter's cough symptoms?
Q: My daughter is 7-years-old. She suffers from bronchial asthma and nasal allergies. The doctor has now put her on Montelukast and other inhalation therapy. Her main symptom is cough. Will Montelukast make her cough worse?
A:Monteleucast is an add-on medicine i.e. to be used along with inhaled steroids and/or beta-agonists (such as terbutaline) when there is inadequate relief. It is not to be used alone and in acute attacks. Unfortunately its side effects include cough and still worse, allergic rhinitis.
