Will I gain weight, if I stop exercising?

Q: I work out twice a day for 1 hour each. I am feeling OK, and I have enough time for the work out. But in future I am not sure whether I will have enough time for this. By that time if I gradually stop working out, will I become obese?

A:Do remember that you should do only as much as you can sustain over a period of time. So even though you may have the time now, if you may not be able to give the same amount of time later, it is better to just stick to what fits into your long-term plans. Yes, if the body is accustomed to a larger amount of exercise, then when it doesn't catch with the same later on, it will show signs. So be prudent and do only as much as you can. The golden rule is to do a cardio workout of 20-60 minutes max 3-6 times a week (you can also break this up) and to do strength/resistant/weight training for about an hour 5-6 times a week. You can do flexibility and mobility exercises like yoga everyday for about 20-30 minutes. So all in you should not go above an hour and a half to 1 hour 45 minutes.
