Will an Indian mediclaim help while travelling overseas?

Q: If an Indian is going abroad for a job, then should he take his own Mediclaim from India? Will this Mediclaim help him if something happens to him there? What should be the minimum value to take? I know that within India atleast 2 lakhs worth of Mediclaim is required. What will be the Insurance premium?

A:The health insurance premium that an individual has to pay is a function of two things - the age and the amount of sum insured desired. Therefore for an individual at 35-45 age category, the premium that will be applicable will be roughly Rs. 2500. When travelling overseas, you need to purchase overseas travel insurance. The regular health insurance that you otherwise buy in India is good for treatment in India only.
