Will a neurofibroma removal leave a scar on my face?

Q: I have a solitary neurofibroma on the left side of my head that was removed three years ago. It seems that it is coming back on my left eye, under the skin. It started to swell slowly since the past one year only. I don't feel any pain but it is bothering me because it is evident on my face. Can this be removed without affecting my face? Would it leave a scar after surgery? Can a plastic surgeon do the surgery or should it be done by a neurosurgeon? Up to what extent will the neurofibroma grow? Can it be stopped?

A:Most probably you will have a scar. I think that a plastic surgeon will do a better job. However, please note that I am saying this without actually examining you and ensuring that there is no neurological involvement. If there is neurological involvement, you should be treated by a team that includes a plastic surgeon and a neurosurgeon.
