Why should patients on hemodialysis avoid eating during the procedure?
Q: I am a 25 years old male. Why are hemodialysis patients asked to avoid feeding while on dialysis?
A:Research studies has shown that feeding during the hemodialysis treatment can result in the redistribution of blood within the circulatory blood vessels in the body. This results in the change in the hemodynamics of the blood flow system including alteration in the cardiac output which can cause fall of the blood pressure. Further, maintaining the hygiene in the dialysis clinic along with preventing the infection are the additional cause of avoiding feeding in the midst of the hemodialysis treatment.
