Why isn't my child interested in writing?

Q: I have a 9 years old son, who studies in class four. From the very beginning he is not interested in writing, though he reads properly. He plays video games and is very good at them. But whenever I ask him to write, He starts crying and weeping. His mother had expired when he was two. Should I send him to a boarding school? Please advise.

A:The decision about sending your child to a boarding school cannot be made on the advice of someone who writes you a letter and does not know anything of your set up or circumstances. Please talk to the elders and other relatives in the family. Consider the advantages of his staying at home. Wherever he is, he will have to conform to some rules. But before you send him off to some other place, make sure that you have a good, warm relationship with him and that he feels he can turn to you for any need. Hostel life should not be seen by him as a punishment but as a reward. Also, remember that it can be tough for him to face the world of a boarding school if he feels insecure and hyper-sensitive. Think of all these points before deciding. Try and get an older person to help him with his school work, who will be kind and not too strict in the beginning.
