Why is my daughter passing thread like bits in her stool?

Q: My 8-month-old daughter passes stool along with threaded like things, possibly worms in the morning. Other times during the day it is normal but sometimes it is more loose. She scratches her genital area frequently. She passes stool very fast i.e. within half an hour of eating food. She is still being breast fed. What should I do? Should I take her to the doctor? Are there any home remedies?

A:It is extremely unlikely that an 8-month-old has worms of any sort. The thread like bits are likely to be food matter like banana bits or threads from some other fruit. Get a stool routine examination done and if that is normal stop worrying.
