Why is my daughter getting fever repeatedly?

Q: My 3 years old daughter has been constantly falling sick with bouts of high fever since August. Her Mantoux test has come positive. The pediatrician has also asked us to go for blood tests and chest x-ray. What's wrong with my daughter?

A:If this recurrent fever has started since she has started going to nursery school then it is not unusual. When children start going to nursery school at the age of 2 and a half or 3 years they often pick up viral infections, coughs, colds with fever fairly frequently until they develop immunity, which may take six months to a year. Your doctor is the best person to decide whether any investigation or treatment is necessary. If he feels it is due to tuberculosis he will treat it, and as a disease it is fully curable.
