Why is my 4 year old niece walking on her toes?

Q: My niece, who is four years old, has been walking on her toes all the time, and the heels of her feet do not touch the floor at any time at all. We are all worried and have not managed to find anything that would help her correct this improper posture? Could you please advise what can be done in this case?

A:If your niece is walking on the toes and not keeping her feet on ground, you should get her checked by an Orthopaedic surgeon to see if her muscles and tendons at the back of her leg are tight. This may either improve with exercises or she may need a plaster especially at nights. If this does not help, sometimes release surgery is done to relax the tendon and this very often works.
