Why does my urine colour change on eating?

Q: The colour of my urine is light or pale yellow and it changes to dark yellow once I eat breakfast, lunch or dinner and also after physical exercises such as walking, weight training. This is despite my drinking adequate water during these activities. Please tell me if it is normal or indicative of some health problem lurking?

A:Many ingested food items; drugs and the state of hydration impart dark colour to urine in healthy states. However, the physicians endeavour to rule out any disease process by getting a microscopic examination of urine to rule out blood cells. If your urine is dark yellow you should enhance the fluid intake and see whether it makes any difference or not. If you are still apprehensive consult a urologist with a urine sample you consider abnormal.
