Why does my child not follow instructions?

Q: My son is nearly four years old. He knows all his shapes, colours, numbers but when asked to do an activity, he tends to have a delay in acting on instructions. I have been told he will and can do activities but may have a delay in processing the information. What can I do to help him? If he is asked to do a something like come to this activity table, he takes his time, is this a problem?

A:Your child sounds quite normal. Do not watch every step that he takes, but make sure he is happy and well cared for. Children have different speeds of handling different tasks. Let him develop in his own way. He seems to be ahead on cognitive tasks.
