Why do my TSH levels keep fluctuating?

Q: I am a 27 years old girl having hypothyroidism for the past 2 years and my thyroid stimulating hormone (TSH) levels keep on fluctuating each time I check. At present, I am taking Thyronorm (75 mcg). What should I do to normalise my TSH levels? Is fine needle aspiration cytology (FNAC) test safe to be done? Are there any side effects related to it? To add, I am losing my hair due to this illness.

A:The fluctuations in TSH values, if within normal range are norma but beyond normal range are abnormal. Gradual dose adjustment may be done. Your doctor would know specific cause in your case. Theoretically, there may be many causes, but in your case the cause is likely to be only one. FNAC is a very safe procedure in expert hands. Hair loss can be due to hypothyroidism, any severe illness, malnutrition, etc. Genetics is another common cause.
