Why do my c-section stitches still hurt?
Q: I had a c-section about 21 months back. I still get acute pain at the stitch line when I stretch hard or exert myself physically. I want to know why does this happen and what can I do to cure this?
A:Normally, the suture line should become painless within a month or two. After 21 months, pain on exertion is unusual, certainly not normal. What to do about it is, however, another thing. Do get a surgeon to check it out, and rule out an incisional hernia. If there is a hernia, you need surgery. If there is no hernia, leave it alone. The cause of this is the entrapment of nerves by the scar tissue of the healing wound.
