Why do I have pain after varicocoele surgery?

Q: I had surgical ligation (abdominal) for bilateral varicocoele 2 weeks ago. But I still feel some pain on the left side beneath the place, where the incision was made. I have heaviness in my testes and they are sensitive. I need to keep my abdomen strapped for walking and I am worried about the results. Is this normal?

A:It is not clear that what surgical method has been used to treat your varicocoele. In high ligation method, commonly used by surgeons not operating under microscope, there is considerable stretch of muscles which may give these symptoms for couple of days or weeks. Some haematoma formation locally or inflammation could also result in the same. I would advise an examination by your treating doctor in addition to an ultrasound of local area to exclude haematoma or collection underneath if you continue to have such symptoms.
