Why do I feel pain in the stomach?
Q: I am a 38 years old man who has been feeling slight pain below the ribs, around the stomach area for the past 2-3 weeks. Sometimes, I feel same pain in the right side as well. For the past 3 days, I am feeling a burning sensation too from my throat to my stomach while eating or drinking something hot and can feel the food or drink going all the way from the throat to the stomach. I am a smoker and now I feel even the smoke inside. What are the causes of this problem and how to take precautions and cure it?
A:It sounds like you have a condition called GERD (gastro-esophageal reflux disease), which means that acid from your stomach is backing up into your food pipe (oesophagus). Please take the following steps:
- Take Omeprazole 20 mg in morning before breakfast on an empty stomach.
- Loose weight if you are overweight
- Avoid heavy meals
- Avoid going to bed for at least 2 hrs after a meal.
