Why do I feel pain 5 days after hernia surgery?

Q: I am a 27 years old male, underwent surgery for hernia five days back. Some times I have pain at the area where surgery was performed. Why do I still feel the pain?

A:After surgery the pain pattern is as follows: Moderate to severe pain: day one and two Mild, frequent pain: day three till day 7 Mild, intermittent pain subsequently. The pain lasts for a few minutes, and occurs every day or two initially, then once to twice a week, and gets rarer and rarer with time. By three months the pain is usually rare, less than once a month. I do not know how frequent your pain is, but if it is is mild and tolerable, it is better to bear it. If it affects your life, see your surgeon.
