White viscous mucous

Q: I get a thick white viscous mucous formed in my upper nose that obstructs my breathing. I constantly need to blow my nose to get rid of it. But then it gets formed again after 30 minutes. There seems to be no effect from cold or hot weather. After a few times of blowing my nose, I develop headache and a sore nose. Please advise.

A:It is possible that this problem is related to sinusitis with the mucus collecting in one of the numerous sinuses lying adjacent to the nose. If there were heavy infection, then the mucus would not be white but would be probably greenish brown in colour. I think you should have a sinus X-ray done, but if this shows no heavy infection then treatment should be tried with topical steroid sprays and antihistamines.
