Q: I have been diagnosed with early stage prostrate cancer. I wish to know your opinion about Radioactive seed implants (brachytherapy). After studying various options of treatments I am thinking of requesting my specialist for this treatment. I would be grateful if you can advise about this line of treatment as compared to Radiation therapy?

A:You are a patient of early stage prostrate cancer. You have the options of surgery or RT. In radiotherapy both types of options are there either to go for Radioactive seed implants (brachytherapy) or conventional RT. This may have to be discussed with the treating Radiation Oncologist. Brachytherapy is nothing but another form of RT applied to the body in close proximity. Other form of RT is Tele therapy applied from a distance.
