Which is the health insurance policy for Indians travelling abroad?
Q: My parents aged 60 wish to travel to Dubai for a period of 2 months and hence want to know about the Medical Insurance policies that they should opt for before travelling abroad? They have mild BP. Is it advisable to take a policy in India or should they opt for Insurance over there in Dubai?
A:The typical Mediclaim/any other health insurance policy available here is for treatment in India only. For Indians travelling abroad you will have to take an Overseas Mediclaim Policy (OMP - Offered by the Public Sector General Insurance companies) or any travel policy offered by the private players such as Bajaj Allianz, ICICI Lombard etc. You may contact their local offices for getting the details on the coverage and premium rates. Considering their state of health as you have mentioned there should not be any problem in obtaining the cover.
