Q: I am currently living in USA and would like to buy a health insurance policy for my mother in India. She has just turned 61 years old last year. I would like to know which are the best health insurance providers. I have been searching quite a bit on the internet but could not find a satisfying answer. I have heard that ICICI Lombard seems to be the best option. Please advise.

A:The options that I could suggest is that you may either opt for a Mediclaim product from any of the public sector insurance companies or else you may go in for the policy from ICICI Lombard. The benefit of Mediclaim is that once you have the policy, its renewability year after year may be more easy for an age upto 80 - 85 years. Also an important consideration is that you should be able to find a willing insurer to provide a cover without much hassles. In any case, at 61 years your mother will have to undergo a series of tests for the insurance company to be comfortable underwriting the policy. I may also suggest the Silver Plan by Bajaj Allianz, which I think may be more appropriate and easier to get.
