Where can we find a kidney donor for my mother?
Q: My 62 years old mother's kidney is not functioning. Where can we find a kidney donor for her?
A:Kidney transplantation in our country is done as per guidelines in transplantation of Human Organs Act, which prohibits sale of organs. Kidney transplantation is done by donation of one kidney by either parents, siblings, children and spouse as allowed in the act. If none of these are suitable then a close 2nd degree whose relationship has to be ascertained by (tissue matching tests) if found suitable may be accepted as a donor after having been approved by an Authorization Committee. So patient has to discuss it in the family.
