What is the reason for blood in urine?

Q: A transurethral resection of prostate (TURP) was done on an enlarged prostate 3 years ago in India. As frequent urination continued the urologist tested for PSA, did a biopsy and referred to me an oncologist. The PSA was found to be raised. After radiation the PSA dropped and the urine checked at regular intervals is normal. The PSA is also normal as of now. At times I see blood while passing urine and shreds of tissue-like pieces red or black in colour. What is the remedy?

A:The pieces and the blood may be due radiation. It is a difficult problem. Try reducing any anti- platelet drug you are taking, avoid straining at stools and correct constipation, if any. Fortunately your problems is not very severe. There are methods like alum irrigation to reduce bleeding if it becomes heavy. Consuly your urologist.
