Q: During an eye check up for my wife aged 68 years, it was revealed that she has developed macular degeneration in the left eye. We were advised to use Ocuvite PreserVision manufactured in USA. Contents of the vitamin & mineral supplement are as given below for 2 Tablets:- Vitamin A (beta-carotene) 14,320 IU 286% of daily value; Vitamin C (ascorbic acid) 226 mg 376% of daily value; Vitamin E (di-alpha tocopheryl acetate) 200 IU 666%; Zinc (zinc oxide) 34.8 mg 232% of daily value; Copper (cupric oxide) 0.8 mg 40% of daily value. Other ingredients:- Lactose, monohydrate, microcrystalline cellulose, stearic acid, magnesium stearate, silicon dioxide, polysorbate 80, tryethyl citrate, FD & C Yellow #6; FD & C Red # 40. We are on a short stay in US and will soon be returning to India. Is the above medicine available in India? Under what brand name is it sold? Is this the only treatment for this ailment?

A:The brands available in India with similar composition for age related macular degeneration (ARMD)are Macugold, V-Ret, Carofit, amongst others. For dry type of ARMD, this is the only type of treatment.
