What is the cause of dry skin with watery red patches?

Q: My daughter is 3 years and 8 months old. When she was 2 months old, she had dry skin with red watery patches in the neck region. The doctor prescribed Oilatum soap for her bath and a steroid cream and the lesions subsided and finally got cured. Then when she was 3 years old, she again had the same problem, especially in her hands (inner elbows) and legs (back of the knee) and underarms. This time the doctor prescribed Flutibact cream. I applied the same and it used to be al right for a day. We applied vaseline for a month and it completely disappeared. Now for the past 3 months, she has been getting itchy rashes on her hands and legs. The doctor said that it might be due to allergy and prescribed Cetzine syrup and Cetrabine cream, but there was no improvement. We stopped giving her fish and the problem went off completely. What is the reason for this? She also has tonsilitis from the age 1. She underwent treatment for 4 months, then the doctor asked to stop the medicines. But after stopping, she got it again. We stopped allopathic treatment and started giving homeopathic drugs for a year. She has completed 2 months course, but there seems to be no improvement. We have stopped giving her chocolates, ice-cream and cold items, but the problem still persists. It starts with sneezing and coughing at night along with runny nose. The doctor prescribed Cetzine and Asthafen, saying that it is allergic rhinitis. Her condition aggravates when she goes to crowded place or is exposed to heat. Please suggest a permanent remedy for this.

A:What you are describing seems to be eczema and a fish allergy may have been the precipitating factor. Keep her off fish . If it recurs then it will need reevaluation. Alleric rhinitis and asthma are often present along with eczema. You could ask your doctor about steroid nasal spray or a medicine called monteleukast. Most children get better as they get older.
