What is the cause for irregular and heavy periods?
Q: I am a female having a problem of hormonal imbalance. This has resulted in menstrual problems (irregularity in periods), excessive hair growth on the entire body and obesity. I get my periods once in 6-8 months which last for atleast 2-3 weeks. I bleed in clots and the flow is very, very heavy. I have taken various treatments such as homeopathy for 3 years, allopathy for 3-4 months, acupuncture for 1 year and, most recently, Ayurvedic for 3 months but none of them proved useful. I request you to please suggest a guaranteed treatment to get rid of this problem.
A:The hormonal imbalance is the cause of your irregular, heavy periods; which will stay with you till you reach menopause. There is no guaranteed treatment for this; however remedial measures can be of great help. I would first like to know your age & obstetric history and your desire for child bearing as the treatment differ with age and other factors. A pelvic ultrasonography is required. Kindly do blood tests: Serum FSH, LH, prolactin, T3, T4, TSH. Send me the details as to enable me to help you in a better way.
