What is epigastric hernia?
Q: I had an operation for epigastric hernia (incisional) which was treated without a mesh 4 years ago but it reappeared within 6 months. I was again operated 3 years back with mesh implantaion. I want to know if it can recur? What is epigasteric hernia and is it related to cancer?
A:Epigastric hernia is just like a hernia in the groin. It is protrusion of the abdominal contents through a defect in the wall. It is not related to cancer. Once a mesh of the proper size has been used, the chance of recurrence is minimal.
