What is cholesterlosis of the gall bladder?

Q: A routine ultrasound of the abdomen detected cholesterolosis of the gall bladder. Does it require any treatment or follow up? I do not have any complaint except some slight discomfort. Please advise.

A:Cholesterlosis indicates fat accumulation in the gall bladder wall. It is a benign condition (i.e., does not cause any harm) which is usually diagnosed incidentally on ultrasound (as in your case) or at cholecystectomy (removal of gallbladder) performed for an unrelated reason. Since you are asymptomatic, nothing more needs to be done.
