What does my cardiac report indicate?
Q: I am a 58 years old man who has been diagnosed with sinus rhythm. My report states heart rate – 73, left axis deviation, left anterior semiblock, right bundle branch block and normal PR. Is this a serious problem? Please advise.
A:You have a condition known as bifascicular block. This is a usually benign condition, commonly age related, is unlikely to progress, and carries an excellent prognosis. It may be worthwhile to get some other checks in your case such as a TMT and an Echo test to make sure you have no associated ailment, which may have led to this ECG abnormality, although the likelihood is quite low.
