What dietary precautions do I need to take?
Q: I am a diabetic and had a tumour in my right kidney. I have diabetes. A radical nephrectomy was performed on last month/b>. The histopathology report diagnosed the presence of a moderately differentiated renal cell carcinoma (Nuclear grade 2). What does it mean? What dietary precautions should I take?
A:The histopathology report indicates the grade and the stage of the carcinoma or cancer in the right kidney tissue. The staging guides the first line of treatment plan, the prognosis and also estimate the chances of any recurrence of the cancer after the initial treatment. Removal of the affected kidney as in your case followed by chemotherapy if any and close monitoring for any chances of recurrence is the standard line of care. You need to continue closely follow up with your Oncologist. Lastly, since you are diabetic, it is important to follow a diet rich in protein and low in carbohydrate and fat in addition to increased outdoor exercise and healthy lifestyle.
