What causes lethargy in children?

Q: My son is 15 yrs of age. He is excessively lethargic and this is coming in the way of his education too. Physically too he does not feel very healthy or energetic.

A:What you mean by excessively lethargic is not clear. First of all, get your son checked by a physician to rule out any physiological cause for the lethargy like vitamin/iron deficiency. If everything is normal, get him enrolled into an exercise programme or encourage him to exercise at home. Encourage him to play or engage himself with his peers. Lethargy at this age is usually uncommon and it is best to have this sorted out under a doctors guidance. Good luck!
