What are the risks of pregnancy in an older woman?
Q: I am a 39.7 years old woman married for 10 years and at present reside in Indonesia. I have one daughter aged six and a half who was delivered normally. Prior to that I had two miscarriages (both in the first trimester). After that I had a mental block towards having a second child. Now I have conceived again due to the failure of contraception that we were using. I wish to know whether it is rational to continue with the pregnancy given my age and previous obstetric history? What are the risks involved to both? My blood group is A negative. The doctors here have not been able to guide me on it. Kindly advise.
A:At your age, though there is an inreased risk of Downs baby, but all that can be ruled out. Besides that as long as your ICT is negative, The Rh bit should not really be a problem. Anyhow do mail me your detailed reports for any further advice that you might wish to seek.
