Q: I am a 27 years old male want to know the causes of parenchymal hypofunction of my left kidney, which is confirmed by radioisotope renogram? The symptoms started 40 days ago and the associated symptoms were renal colic.
A:Parenchymal hypofunction of one kidney can be due to: i) Pyelonephritis - related to infection of kidney in obstructed or non-obstructed kidney. In your case because of colic history, kidney stones could be a cause. ii) Dysplastic kidney iii) Ischaemic kidney due to narrowing of renal artery.
