Pain in shoulder - swimming

Q: I have pain in my left shoulder from last one week and this is not the first time it is happening. It happens at quite regular intervals. I think it may be due to some bad posture while sleeping. The pain is not in a specific area; it moves around. I do swimming for an hour in the morning. Shall I discontinue that till i am not recovered fully.

A:Swimmers usually get the kind of problems you have described. I would advise you to take complete rest for 2 to 3 days and try interferential current at a physiotherapy clinic for a week and your pain should settle down.

Try the following exercise when the pain subsides:
Climb as high as possible when cleaning so that you can work mainly below shoulder height. Remember that reaching out over a table or under furniture to polish also takes your arms above your shoulders.
Gradually add resistance to strengthen your shoulder cuff muscles and then get back to swimming.
