Q: I have been suffering from multiple nasal polyps due to which one of my nostrils is completed blocked and the other one gets blocked often resulting in breathing problems. I have this problem for the last 3 years now. Had once (in 1999 January) gone in for a surgery and got this cleared. But within 4 months, I started facing the same problems again; first I could not smell things and then could not breathe properly and after about 8 months the left nostril was completely blocked again. Can you please advise me if this problem can be totally eliminated once and for all?

A:Thank you for your enquiry about your nasal polyps. Nothing can eliminate them completely but they are most commonly treated medically using steroid drops and sprays and this can usually avoid the need for surgery. If you do have surgery then the medical treatment can usually prevent a recurrence.
