Is there anything wrong with my ears?
Q: I had tympanoplasty for my left ear two months ago and I am hearing some voices at the time of swallowing. I discussed this with my doctor and he told me that it will improve with time. I also have echo sound in my ear while yawning. Please help.
A:After tympanoplasty operation the ear becomes safe, dry and hearing improvement may occur. Because of repaired tympanic membrane, air does not escape during swallowing as may be happening before and this is reason behind hearing a sound during swallowing. The improved hearing may manifest as loud sounds, autophony (hearing your own voice loud), and it is due to collection of serum and blood after operation and should disappear in due course. Get hearing tested again by audiogram after three or four months.
