Is there any relationship between milk and phlegm?

Q: My three years old child is having a very bad cough. According to the doctor it is a bacteria chest infection. I have people telling me to stop giving him milk because that is the cause of his excessive phlegm. Is this true? I have diluted his milk by half. He has lost his appetite, we tried giving him bread, porridge, macaroni, etc. He eats a bit and started asking for milk again. What should I feed him? Does the consumption of milk causes phlegm?

A:There is no relationship with milk intake and phlegm. You can continue to give milk he wants just that or give him what ever diet he prefers. There is no need to dilute milk.
