Is there an alternative to surgery for a thyroid cyst?
Q: I have a thyroid cyst measuring more than 3 cm since the last two years, which is inactive right now. I have got FNAC done 5 times but there is no conclusive result. I have been advised surgery for the removal of the cyst. Could you please advise me any alternative treatment apart from surgery? If I do go in for surgery, then I have heard that a permanent mark will be left behind on my neck. Can you suggest a way such that no scar/mark is left after the surgery? Could you please help me on this urgently as I have to take a decision within this week. Looking forward to your reply.
A:You should undergo surgery for the thyroid cyst. The mark will be minimal, and certainly less visible than the cyst. There is no good alternative to surgery.
