Is the presence of protein in urine harmful?

Q: My 8 years old daughter had 38-38 degree Celsius temperature and had turned very weak because of this. When I got her clinically examined, protein 2+ was found in her urine. After a few days, the protein content in her urine declined to 1+. Though she is fine and healthy now and also started going to the school, I am worried about her health because she often suffers from fever. Is this a cause of worry?

A:Most viral illness can cause transient protein presence in the urine for few days. It should settle with time and anyway the protein content is not high and is on the decline. It is not clear if the morning sample showed what evidence of infection. If her fever is settled and the urine examination is not conclusive, you should get it examined again. I don't think there is anything to worry about, does not appear to be any thing serious.
