Is the drug Urimax effective for treating BPH?
Q: I am 57 years old and I have been advised to take Urimax 0.4 for BPH, a tablet daily. However, I found in CIMS that this medicine is a cancer treatment/chemotherapy drug. I am afraid to take this drug, as it is a chemotherapy drug having side effects. Does this drug cure BPH or only gives symptomatic relief? Is there any other medicine, which is safe and cures BPH?
A:Urimax is the trade name of a medicine called tamsulosin. It is indicated in the symptomatic treatment of BPH. The drug has nothing to do with cancer treatment nor does it cause malignancy in males even after years of treatment for whom it is specifically meant. In fact, cancer in the prostate has to be excluded before starting on Urimax.
