Is the birth control pill Elogen safe?
Q: I am 20 years old and got married 3 months back. I don't want a child right now. So, I contacted a doctor and she prescribed me Elogen. I am using these pills for the past 2 months and my periods are fine. I have no problem. Some of my friends say that using pills will cause a problem when I want to conceive and also it will increase my weight. I asked doctor but she said there is no such problem. So I want to know from you.
A:Elogen is the brand name of an oral contraceptive (OC) pill that contains oestrogen, a hormonal agent. There are several side effects of hormonal contraceptives including increased risk of high blood pressure, stroke, water retention leading to weight gain, clot formation, inflammation of optic (eye) nerve etc. All in all the use of barrier methods such as condoms by male partners is the best choice.
