Is Lignocaine infusion effective in treating diabetic neuropathy?

Q: My wife is diabetic and using Lantus for treatment. Her blood sugar levels are controlled. The real problem is that she is facing neuropathic pain for which she has taken Lignocaine infusion. Will this solve the problems of leg and feet pains?

A:Neuropathic pain is not easy to treat and therefore a variety of options are generally attempted. No single method is universally superior. Lignocaine infusion similarly may be quite useful but its effects have a variable effect in terms of effectiveness and duration. Sugars must of course be well controlled. Other modalities of treatment include drugs like antidepressants, duloxetin, gabapentin or pregablin.
