Is it safe to undergo vascular surgery of lower limbs in old age?
Q: I have been a smoker for the past 40 years. Is vascular surgery safe for both lower limbs at the age of 67 years? Is there any alternative? Where can I undergo this surgery in Bangalore at a low cost?
A:It is usually in the old age that most of the vascular problems arise. The safety of the surgery is assessed on the individual basis taking in to account the disease and the general condition of the patient. It is also possible for the surgeon to choose the less extensive and safer option, which may not be the best but is effective and safest. Bangalore is one of the best centres in the country and is doing good work in the field of vascular surgery. The two good surgeons that are quite experienced in the field are Dr. K.R. Suresh and Dr. Bhagwan. I think the patient should see one of these surgeons and discuss about the cost.
