Is it possible for someone to be born with a single testis?

Q: Is it possible for someone to be born with only one testis? My son was recently operated upon and the second one was not found. A spermic chord was removed and sent for biopsy. The report says: Sections examined show vas deferens surrounded by collagenous tissue; definite testicular tissue not seen. Can you explain this?

A:Yes it is possible to born with only one testicle. However, it does not matter as long as the other testis is functioning well. It is good to remove the congenitally deficient testis as it could have developed cancer is future.
