Is it necessary to use oestrogen for a hymen to rupture?

Q: Recently we took our one year old daughter for vaccination and regular check up. After check up the Doctor said that the hymen of my Daughter has not ruptured and prescribed a cream called oestrogen for topical application (for her vagina). Is it necessary to use local oestrogen cream for the hymen to rupture?

A:The hymen of a child should not be ruptured. Sometimes the vaginal opening is covered completely by skin for which oestrogen ointment may be applied. I cannot give you an opinion on whether you should use the ointment or not without examining the child.
