Is it necessary to treat a high prolactin level?
Q: My LH and prolactin is high and FSH level is low. My menstrual cycle was observed for 6-7 times with the help of sonography. But only folvite (folic acid) tablets were prescribed earlier. But after the recent test of hormones, they have prescribed me Bromocriptine and Metformin. I had started medicine but was feeling sleepy full day and feeling like vomiting. Hence, I stopped the medicine after taking them for only one day. For the last 3-4 months, I have less bleeding during menstruation. Please guide me as to what I should do? Do I have a polycystic ovaries? Should I continue the above medicines?
A:Your reports do suggest that you have hyperprolactinaemia for which bromocriptine is rightly given, but by means of hormones, do make sure that the levels are now ok. Also do ovulation monitoring to ensure ovulation, and consult a doctor.
