How to treat hip dislocation in an infant?
Q: What is the treatment of hip dislocation in new born baby?
A:The treatment would require a gentle reduction of the dislocated hip into its proper position to be done under general anaesthesia. Once the position is stable and satisfactory, a plaster hip spica needs to be put to hold the position for at least 6 weeks, followed by an appropriate brace. The brace which keeps the hips in proper position, is continued till the hip joint develops properly and is comparable to the normal side.
