How to manage persistent nasal allergy?

Q: My son is 11 years old. He sneezes in the morning after waking up and has constant nasal and throat infections during winter. Along with this he gets fever. I have similar symptoms and get attacks if I am not careful during winter. I know these are due to allergy. Is there a way to control this?

A:Both of you can try taking an antihistamine tablet like loratidine / fexofenedine, along with a local steroid nasal spray like flucitasone / budesonide for 3 weeks. If not better, would need CT scan of sinuses and proper evaluation by an ENT specialist (which actually should be the first step).
