How to manage infant colic?

Q: I have a one month old baby boy, weighing 4.5 kg. Since yesterday night he is crying a lot (which starts at 12:30 midnight) and continues till 8:00 am. I consulted the doctor and he says this is an infant colic syndrome. He recommended to take colicaid drops but this is also not helping much. Do let me know is there any other medicine/remedies we can opt for?

A:By your description it appears to be a colic if your paediatrician has examined your baby and ruled out any other cause of excessive crying. The drops you are using are fine but don't overuse them. Maybe you could keep the baby on his tummy under supervision or raised on your shoulder that will help him pass wind and make him more comfortable. If he is remaining well during the day and is crying only in night, it doesn't seem to be due to any other cause. But still get him examined by your paediatrician.
