How to keep the BP under check?

Q: My BP does not come down below 135/90. My TGL (triglyceride cholesterol)counts are 440 plus. I walk about 4 kms every day. Weight hovers around 69 kgs and my height is 168 cms. I have been taking Lopid 300mg 4 tablets per day for the past 2 years. The TGL level has come down from 650 to 440 with medication and walking. I am also on a diet - I avoid oil, fatty food, ghee, and more so eat chapathis and dal. Coffee and tea I consume around 7-8 cups per day. Is Cholesterol hereditary? Because my cousins (from my fathers side) are also having a very high level of TGL. My ECG when ever taken shows some minor variations, but my family doctor says nothing to worry.

A:I think you need a better evaluation in the form of thyroid tests and also a TMT test. The treatment also depends upon your LDL cholesterol and HDL cholesterol levels. A group of drugs called ACE inhibitors may be good to bring down your diastolic BP. There are other drugs also. I think you need a better supervised treatment in consultation with your treating doctor.
