How to handle intermittent cough and cold?

Q: I am a 32 years old male. I have a problem of regular cough and cold throughout the year. My father was suffering from asthma and he died of heart attack after having a problem of low BP. When I had a problem of respiration and had symptoms of asthama, I consulted a respiratory disease specialist who recommended That I take the following pills : 1) Bricanyl 5 mg; 2) Omnacortil 10 mg; 3) Wikoryl tablet. The course was of 7 days, after which I recovered fully. Now, whenever the cough/cold becomes severe, I take half a tablet of the above three medicines, and find myself to be OK.I would like to know from you whether it is advisable to take these pills regularly? What would you recommend to me for these symptoms? Kindly guide me on this.

A:Since you have intermittent naso-bronchial allergy, you should get a lung function test done when you are well and without any treatment. If that is normal then you should take preventive medicine early when the symptoms start but self medicating with Omnacortril is not advisable.
